What is Chewing Gum

Chewing gum and bubble gum, in fact, can be collectively referred to as "gum-based candy," which is one of the oldest candies in the world. The United States has a deep love affair with chewing gum, not only because it is one of the important export products of the United States, it is also a proud of the history of American invention.

According to statistics, a person probably chews 20,000 pieces of gum in his or her lifetime. Many forms of chewing gum have existed since the Neolithic era, and a gum made of birch bark tar and bearing tooth marks was found in Kierikki, Finland, 6,000 years ago.

The history of chewing gum can be traced all over the world, but its commercialization began in the U.S. When Columbus discovered the American continent in 1498, he found that the Native Americans also had a habit of chewing the gum of the heart fruit. In 1848, John B. Curtis, an American businessman from Maine, developed and sold the first commercial chewing gum, "Maine Pure Spruce Resin Juice", using this practice. Around 1850, a "chewing gum" made of paraffin wax was created and soon overtook the status of spruce gum.

Modern chewing gum was first developed in the 1860s when former President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna brought Chicle (a type of gum) from Mexico to New York, where he gave it to Thomas Adams as a rubber substitute Chicle did not succeed in replacing rubber, but became chewing gum, and in 1871 became known as "Chiclets and Wrigley's Peppermint Gum were early favorites that quickly took over the market and are still around today.

Ingredients of Chewing Gum

Chewing gum ingredients are mainly gum base, sweetener, flavor, softening agent, color and functional substances. There are more sub-ingredients that can help in the production of chewing gum, but they are mostly optional so we’ve only listed the core ingredients.

1. gum base is the key raw material for chewing performance of chewing gum, and its composition is more complex. The gum base is made of rubber, resin, filler, wax, emulsifier and antioxidant.

2. The sweeteners are finely ground white granulated sugar and glucose.

3. Flavors are usually various mint and fruit flavors in liquid form.

4. Softening agent is glycerin. It helps improve the softness of the gum and binds the ingredients better.

5. Coloring makes the chewing gum more attractive in appearance and is usually paired with its fragrance.

6. Functional substances are related to the selling point of chewing gum function. Such as health food chewing gum with vitamins, calcium, herbal ingredients, etc.

7. Polyols Coating is why some gums have a hard outer shell.

Process Used to Make Chewing Gum

Candy process :

1. Chewing gum can be engraved on the top of chewing gum by embossing machine.

2. The color of chewing gum can be changed by adding different pigments.

Aluminum foil process:

1. The lettering can be printed on the top of aluminum foil paper by embossing machine.

Carton process:

1.Four-color printing

Four-color means: cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y), black (K) four inks, all colors can be mixed by these four inks to finally achieve color graphics. Four-color printing is the most common and the most common printing.
 

2. Spot-color printing

Spot-color printing refers to the printing specifically with a special ink to print the color, than the four colors mixed out of the color is more bright. Commonly used is spot gold, spot silver.

Spot color color many colors, refer to the color card, spot color can not achieve gradient printing, there is a need to join the four-color printing.
 

3. Over-gloss glue

After printing, a transparent plastic film is applied to the surface of the printed material by hot pressing, which protects and increases the luster of the surface.
 

4.Matte glue

After printing, transparent plastic film is applied to the surface of the printed material by heat pressing to protect and increase the luster, and the surface is matte.
 

5 Varnish

The most basic process of carton surface treatment, there are similar, but over glue can enhance the hardness and tensile properties of paper.
 

6.UV

Printed materials need to highlight the parts of the local light brightening, so that the local pattern has a more three-dimensional effect.
 

7. Hot stamping

Hot stamping is the use of the principle of heat pressure transfer, the aluminum layer in the aluminum electrochemical transfer to the surface of the substrate to form a special metallic luster effect.
 

8. Embossing

Using a set of concave and convex templates corresponding to the yin and yang of the image, the substrate is placed between them, and the relief-like concave and convex image is pressed out by applying greater pressure.
